A sunset-chaser and goofy free spirit, Markella can often be found snuggled up in her hammock reading Classic literature, strumming her guitar on the porch, or looking for ways to DIY her life. After double majoring in Classical Civilizations and Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, she traveled the country as a study abroad program promoter and then became a fifth grade teacher at a Classical charter school in Naples, Florida. Coincidentally, she rediscovered her love for puns and gel pens at about the same time. Her burgeoning Byzantine music fascination and her desire for academic discovery took her to Boston to begin her Master in Theological Studies at Holy Cross this past fall, when she asked herself if not now, when? Her spirit of adventure has taken her to some incredible places including the Holy Land, Switzerland, Portugal, a semester in Athens, Greece, a semester in Florence, Italy, a mission trip to Jamaica, and to the far reaches of her freezer for a midnight snack (chocolate mudslide ice cream). Markella enjoys impromptu trips, Korean barbecue, soccer, and zumba and finds excitement (and fear!) in the life’s surprising twists and turns. She joyfully awaits the moment she can learn a little of your life story at Crossroad and begin a relationship centered on Christ, the ultimate friend and example!
